Special Services

The East Carter County R-II Special Services Department educates students who have special needs. The department provides comprehensive educational and therapeutic programs for early childhood and school age students whose needs are beyond the capabilities of the regular classroom setting. The special services department has evolved into a model program teaching students efficiently and preparing them to become productive members of society
In addition to our widely adaptable programs for students, we offer continuum of program options for both traditional and classroom-based learning and a variety of proven, alternative teaching methods.
Through the collaboration of community, school and family, all children will develop self-esteem and become life-long learners and successful citizens.

East Carter County makes every effort to contact, evaluate and educate all children suspected of having a disability, ages 3 through 21, under the provisions established by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 1997 (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
East Carter County strictly adheres to the policies and procedures set forth under IDEA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the State Department of Education, and the District Special Education Policy/Procedure Manual to ensure that all students receive a free, appropriate public education.
