Dear Faculty, Staff, Students, Parents, and Patrons of the East Carter R-II School District:

At this time, I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself.  At a special board meeting and by a unanimous decision and vote, the Board of Education selected me to be the next Superintendent of Schools for the East Carter R-II School District.  Not only will it be my pleasure to serve the district in this capacity, but I also consider it an honor and will treat the position as such.

As a new member of the school and community, I will ask that you all lend me an understanding relative to my assimilation of all of the educational community members, community members at large, and with all of the programs associated with the district.  My first year will not only be important based upon my new position, but also based upon figuring it all out and being able to place all of the pieces together to form the picture that defines the district and community.

I have already visited the district on more than one occasion and have researched isolated characteristics concerning the district through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the district web site.  I am impressed with what I am learning and considering that impression, I feel that you should be proud as a community to be associated with it.  My investigations have led me to believe that the East Carter R-II School District is a good district, and again, I cannot stress enough that you should be proud of that fact.  Now, with that said, good, or even great, for me, is never good enough.  There is always ways that we, along with every other district in the state, can do better, and I feel that it is my obligation to assist in the process.  When I say assist in the process, I mean to identify the areas of good or greatness and collaborate with the faculty, staff, students, parents, and patrons to develop the ideas that will improve good.

On the very factual side of who I am, My wife and I currently reside in Climax Springs, Missouri.  I have served in public education as a High School Math and Science Teacher, Counselor, Principal, District Superintendent and Graduate Assistant at the university level spanning a period of 23 years.  I have been working on my Doctorate for the past five years and have just completed full approval of my dissertation by my committee (which I do have in writing as not to make an assumption) and the only remaining requirement is a formality of clerical work to place my name on the roles as complete.  With your full knowledge of that, I do consider myself done with the achievement of the degree of Doctorate in Educational Leadership from NOVA Southeastern University, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and feel that this transition from one district to another is a good time for that accomplishment to be considered complete.

In Conclusion, I thank the Board of Education for recognizing my leadership qualities and will follow up this mailing with further detail at another time.

Sincerely,

Dr. Slack, Superintendent Elect
