Your baby begins learning at birth, and Parents as Teachers (PAT) can help you give your baby the best possible start in life. Parents as Teachers is a free and voluntary early-learning program for parents with children birth to age three.

Your Parent as Teachers Program provides events and group meetings for your family. Group meetings can provide new information from experts, allow you to meet other families and give you fun activities to do with your child. You get the most out of your Parents as Teachers Program when you participate in all the components - personal visits, group meetings, screening and using community resources.
 
As a PAT participant, you'll
receive the following services:

*Personalized home visits by a certified
parent educator, specially trained in child development and eager to help you give your child a great start. Information - even before your baby is born - on what to look for as your child develops, constructive play and more.

*Group meetings with other parents, where you can share parenting experiences, gain new insights and talk about topics that interest you.

*Periodic screening to ensure that your
child has no undetected learning, sensory (hearing and vision) or developmental problems.

Visions:  All parents will be their child's best first teacher.

Program Goals:  Give the child a solid foundation for school success.  Increase parents' competence and confidence in giving the child the best possible start in life.  Increase parents' knowledge of child development and appropriate ways to stimulate learning.  Promote a strong parent child relationship.  Develop true partnership between parents and schools.  Provide a means for early detection of potential learning problems. Prevent and reduce child abuse and neglect.

What is National PAT Day?
National Parents As Teachers Day is celebrated on November 8 to pay tribute to the more than 2,700 Parents as Teachers programs world wide that give all parents, regardless of social or economic circumstances, the support and guidance necessary to be their children's best first teachers in the critical early years.
