Save the Sea Turtles!!!
 designed by Mrs. Julie Sievers

Introduction
After reading "Into the Sea" by Brenda Z. Guiberson in your reading textbook, you have learned that there used to be millions of sea turtles.   Now we know there are only several thousand left.  But, by working to protect nesting sites, providing care for the eggs, and establishing new nesting beaches, people hope to dramatically increase the number of turtles in the sea.

Task

You and your partner have been selected by the "Save the Sea Turtle Foundation" to create a presentation to educate people about sea turtles and how people can get involved in increasing the number of turtles in the sea.

Process
You are to pick a kind of sea turtle that interest you and your partner.  Next you are to research your specie of sea turtle to find the following information.

*Describe your sea turtle, identify body parts and life cycle
identify, describe, and label the body parts of your Sea Turtle and create an illustration of this sea turtle. Describe and illustrate the life cycle of the sea turtle. Look for adaptations that the sea turtle has made to help it survive.  What dangers does the sea turtle encounter at each stage of its life cycle (egg, hatchling, adult)?
*Describe nesting, hatching and feeding  behavior patterns Your job is to research the nesting, hatching, and feeding habits of your  Sea Turtle. How does the female turtle prepare her nest and protect her eggs?  What does the sea turtle eat?  What animals are its predators? What are the dangers to the newly hatched turtles?
*Describe habitat, population,  range and migration patterns. Your job is to find out the travel paths (range and migratory patterns) of the your Sea Turtle and create an illustration of the migratory patterns, describe and illustrate where it makes its home,  and illustrate how its population  has changed over time
*Investigate human impact on survival of sea turtles and conservation efforts. Your job is to investigate how humans impact the survival of sea turtles:  find out what humans are doing that endangers these sea turtles; find out what is being done to protect the turtles; make a list of ways that the members of your team might help in the effort to protect your Sea Turtle. Be sure to describe both positive and negative influences that humans have had on the sea turtles. What does conservation mean?
