The Process

Through the combined efforts of your design team you will produce a bedroom design for a 10' x 12' bedroom to submit to the producers following the steps below.  Your design team will be approved by your teacher and will consist of two interior design experts.  Each bedroom must be designed to have a twin bed - and remember to stay within your $500 budget.

Day One -  Dream and Brainstorm
Dream - What kind of theme will your room have?

Today is the day for your team to get your creative juices flowing.  What kind of bedroom design theme will you choose...Tye Dye... Cars... Safari? What colors will you choose.... blue...red...purple
The choices are endless so you need to agree on a some ideas or a theme.  Create a diagram using Inspiration planning your project, your concept ideas, your furniture ideas, your design needs, tools etc.  Need inspiring ideas? Try the links below to help you get started.

Day Two - Plan 
Plan - How much will you need?
Designers must have a solid understanding about perimeter and area.  Go to the sites below to practice area and perimeter before completing the written math task for your room.

Read everything CAREFULLY.
Practice finding the area of several figures.

Now, for review, go to Math Goodies - Perimeter.
Read carefully and do exercises 1-3.

Next, you'll need to learn how to compute the wallpaper and border needed.

Now that you have agreed about your design theme and have sharpened your math design skills you will need to complete the worksheet ( download pdf.) so you will be ready to go shopping for supplies tomorrow. 

Day Three - Shop 'Till You Drop!

Go to the Speciality-Designs-For-Less store to purchase your supplies. You must purchase a bed.  Print out and complete the order form ( download pdf) to turn in with final proposal.  Don't forget to include shipping charges and do not exceed your $500 limit. 

When you have finished shopping, create a floor plan of your 10' x 12' dream room using 1 cm. graph paper. Be sure to add all of your furniture items and to label everything.  Keep this floor plan to turn in as part of your proposal.

Day Four - Add it Up

Create a worksheet using Microsoft Excel to list purchases and amount spent.  Create a graph using this information to show how you spent your money. 
Print out a copy to submit and you may want to save the graph to paste in your power point proposal later. 

Day Five - WOW 'EM- Prepare Your Proposal
Create a Powerpoint Proposal convincing the producers your proposal is the greatest!   Be sure to dazzle the producers with your creativity and imagination! 
Your powerpoint should include your theme, colors, design ideas, and graph showing amounts spent.  You must also submit your floor plan on graph paper and budget print out. 
Day Six - Show  your stuff!
Today is the day for you to show off your design ideas to the producers.  Only one team will be chosen to host the show and win their dream bedroom! Good Luck!
The producers (classmates) will vote after all proposals are given.
